The North Carolina Floodplain Mapping Program (NCFMP) in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have produced revised preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for portions of Rowan County available for review at rowancountync.gov/flood. FIRM revisions may include increases and/or decreases to floodplain boundaries and other changes to flood risk information on property.

Rowan County is hosting a “drop-in” public meeting at the West End Plaza (formerly Salisbury Mall) located at 1935 West Jake Alexander Boulevard Salisbury on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 between 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM to assist the public in understanding the proposed map changes. Please enter through the former JCPenney entrance. No formal presentation will be made, rather the meeting is intended to offer individual consultation between the public and local/state officials regarding changes to their property (meeting attendance is optional).

Based on a comparison of Rowan County Tax Assessor records and preliminary FIRMs, the floodplain boundary on your tax parcel (ID noted on the envelope address) will likely change. If you are interested in learning more about the proposed changes, but are unable to attend the meeting, please visit the above website for contact information for the Rowan County Planning Department.

Individuals with disabilities who need modifications to access the services or public meetings of Rowan County Government should contact the Rowan County Planning Department three days prior to the meeting by calling (704) 216-8588 or by utilizing the North Carolina relay number at 1-800-735-2962 (English) or 1-888-825-6570 (Spanish).
